Forest School
Pencalenick Forest School.
Here at Pencalenick we are extremely lucky to be able to utilise our unique and beautiful grounds with our Forest School Provision.
We strive to ensure that all children access Forest School as regularly as possible so that they can develop their relationship with the outdoors. We believe that it’s a vital part of a child’s development to be able to build their resilience, independence, communication skills and confidence. We aim to promote wherever possible the physical, social, cognitive and emotional aspects of the learner. Pupils are given the opportunity and are supported to make their own risk assessments appropriate to themselves and the environment.
We believe in the pupil’s right to play and the right to access and respect the natural environment using all of their senses. Learning within the Forest School is pupil-led, we encourage them to direct their own learning which supports their independence and confidence.
We support many activities including sawing, fire lighting, den building, art projects, natural craft and cooking on open fires to name a few. All activities are fully risk assessed, always appropriate to the learner and have an appropriate staff/pupil ratio. Safety is of utmost importance always.
Pupils here enjoy so many aspects of Forest School whether it’s playing games, learning new skills, jumping in puddles, cooking sausages, exploring the woodland, enjoying a hot chocolate or toasting a marshmallow or two, but above everything or main aim is to have FUN!
